The current trends and increasing need for electric propulsion systems and components means that they should be smaller and better entegrated if they are to be competetive in the future. With these in mind, Omnidea developed a mechanical Xenon pressure regulator for use with miniaturized Hall Thrusters.
The design is based upon three main features:
- the sensing element is an internally pressurized metal bellow;
- the components arranjements in the regulator was thought out to allow easy integration with the propellant tank;
- the design is suitable for for low-cost mass production using, realtively, conventional metalworking techniques.
Nominal flow rate of Xenon in the order of magnitude of 10 mg/s, with an inlet pressure up to 180 to 200 bar and an outlet pressure around 2 bar.
